What are dentures?

Dentures are a procedure that restores lost teeth, thus restoring their aesthetic appearance and full chewing function. Dentures can be placed on teeth or on implants. The latter option is chosen when the entire tooth is lost. Dentures on the teeth are the solution in cases where part of the tooth has been lost, there is severe wear, the tooth looks unaesthetic, etc.

Types of dentures

Dentures come in two types: removable and fixed, as well as full and partial dentures.

Removable prostheses

Removable dentures have been around in dentistry for quite a few years, and today they are one of the easiest ways to have complete teeth, but far from the best. Although removable dentures require a relatively small investment and do not require grinding of adjacent teeth, they do not protect the jaw from loss or fully replace lost teeth, and chewing function is only restored to around 25% of the total. In addition, many people have problems with the stability of the removable denture, or rather the lack of it, which is a source of great discomfort.

Fixed prostheses

Fixed dentures offer what removable dentures cannot - aesthetic appearance, comfort and chewing function. Depending on whether the tooth is completely missing or has part of it remaining (for example, after trauma, abrasion, etc.), fixed prostheses can be cemented to the remaining part of the tooth or screwed onto an implant. All fixed prostheses not only restore the aesthetic appearance, but also allow the restoration of chewing function and are extremely stable, avoiding any discomfort when speaking or eating.

Complete dentures

As the name suggests, these dentures are designed for those who do not have all their teeth. In this case, there is a choice of removable dentures or implants on which fixed dentures are fixed. The choice is often determined by the price - removable dentures will be a much cheaper option, but implants will not only restore aesthetics but also chewing function and protect the jawbone.

Partial dentures

Partial dentures can replace one tooth, several teeth or a row of teeth. These dentures are attached to your existing own teeth or to implants.

SERVICE PRICES

How much do dentures cost?

Every denture case is different, so prices vary depending on many factors. The choice of the type of denture is probably the most important factor, as well as the method of prosthetics, the materials from which the denture will be made, etc. In each case, we take into account many criteria and calculate the price individually.

Funding opportunities

It is possible to get reimbursement for prosthetics from the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund budget. The following categories of persons covered by compulsory health insurance (CHI) are entitled to such reimbursement:

- who have reached retirement pension age;

- Children and adolescents (up to 18 years);

- unable to work or partially unable to work;

- who have been treated for oral, maxillofacial and oral oncological diseases.

Important: The clinic providing prosthetics must have a contract with the territorial health insurance funds.

PROCEDURE

The denture process: step by step

The process of denture fitting may vary slightly depending on the type of denture chosen. However, in general, the procedure proceeds as described below
Initial visit

The first step on the path to prosthetics is a consultation, during which the doctor examines the patient, assesses the condition of his/her teeth, the current situation, expectations and possibilities, and then proposes the most suitable prosthetic options and, after discussing them, draws up a treatment plan. An X-ray is also required.

Why is it important to replace lost teeth?

Losing teeth not only affects the aesthetics of your smile, but also has long-term consequences for your oral health and quality of life. The aesthetic aspect is one of the most obvious, as a toothless smile can reduce self-confidence and become a serious complex.
Over time, if the teeth are not replaced, nearby teeth can start to move into the space of the lost tooth, leading to malocclusion, which can cause further problems. Bone loss in the jaw area can also start to occur and the facial structure can change.
Dentures are the perfect solution for restoring not only aesthetics but also the proper functionality of your mouth. They allow you to enjoy a full meal again, maintain a correct bite and ensure that your smile remains beautiful and natural.
